In 1879, a contest organized for the installation of a large monument dedicated to the New Republic proclaimed, was won by brothers Morice, Leopold for statuary and Charles Morice the basement. Two opening ceremonies were held, the first July 14, 1880 (with the plaster model) and a second, July 14, 1883 (with the final bronze). The monument consists of a large statue of Marianne bronze on a stone base which is seated allegories of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. The fountain of Water Tower on Davioud has been reinstalled in 1880-up Felix Eboue in the 12th arrondissement.

The Republic Square is a bustling and popular Paris.

Because of its name and the symbolism connected with it, the Republic Square is one of the usual places of events in Paris, most often initiated by leftist political organizations or unions.
